Participating in the GZTC will take you:
- Through downtown Tucson (TMC Meet Me Downtown 5K Run/Walk and 1 Mile).
- Through the foothills of the Tucson Mountains (TMC Tucson 10K and 5K).
- Up Sentinel Peak (TMC A-Mountain Half Marathon and A-Mountain 4 Mile).

History of the GZTC
Running shows us the power within ourselves. The GZTC is an annual three-race series that commemorates Gabe Zimmerman, a Tucson native who lost his life in the tragic January 2011 shooting of U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords in Tucson.
Gabe was a 30 year old congressional staffer who acted as Gabrielle Giffords’ community outreach director. He was allegedly known as “constituent whisper,” because he was so good at communicating with people. Gabe was killed doing what he was best at: supporting his community, trying to make it a better place for everyone, regardless of their politics or backgrounds.
In Gabe’s honor, the U.S. Capital has the Gabe Zimmerman Meeting Room, and Tucson has the Gabe Zimmerman Davidson Canyon Trailhead as well as the Gabe Zimmerman Triple Crown. We are grateful to Ross Zimmerman (Gabe’s father) and Julia Strange at Tucson Medical Center for developing the concept of the Gabe Zimmerman Triple Crown. His presence will forever be a part of our community.
Our goal is to celebrate Gabe and motivate the community to aspire to individual and collective greatness – to work alone and work with others towards those goals we find valuable, to celebrate living, community, and good will, and to live with love and passion for chasing our dreams.
Charity Goals
Each year from 2011-2016, $10 from each Triple Crown entry was donated to Gabe’s favorite non-profit, Child and Family Resources. Additional Tucson-based organizations also received a portion of the proceeds from the individual events. Over $100,000 has been donated due to your efforts!
Since 2017, the Triple Crown has donated $10 from each entry to the BEYOND-Tucson foundation.
