Tucson and Southern Arizona Running, Biking, and Hiking Groups
Are you training for a race and want some accountability?
Stuck in a training rut and want to spice things up?
Or do you just want to meet cool people and make new friends?
Some of you know that Randy is the Director of Coaching Education for the RRCA, heading up the RRCA’s renowned run-coaching certification program. An RRCA and USATF certified coach, Tia helps the RRCA with curriculum development and manages the tutoring program for class participants.
Thus, we’re uniquely qualified to brag about the great training groups here in the Tucson region.
21 local groups: We start with a description of our own Workout Group, then provide in alphabetical order a list of 20 other groups. If you want a referral, let us know and we’ll hook you up. (Please let us know about any changes we should make to this list!)
To our out-of-town friends: if you want to find a group or coach near you, let us know. Tia has two spots open on her roster for out-of-town online coaching, and we can get you in touch with well-trained RRCA-certified coaches and running groups, no matter where you are!
Run Tucson’s The Workout Group has started Year 28 of Tuesday speed workouts & Thursday stamina sessions.
5:30 am Tuesday and Thursday morning at Rillito Park, near First Avenue and River Road
6:00 pm Tuesday and Thursday evening at St. Phillip’s Plaza, SE corner of River and Campbell
The Workout Group provides run training in the form of speed work, lactate threshold training, and social miles every Tuesday & Thursday from August through May. You can drop in on a part time basis or commit to the full training plan. If you are new to WOG, we invite you to visit a couple of sessions before registering.

BEYOND and Meet Me Monday’s: BEYOND-Tucson hosts free social walks and runs on Mondays in the Downtown Tucson area. Join fellow runners and walkers for a free 2-4 mile jaunt every Monday night at 5:30 pm. With music, and discounts to local restaurants, drawings for goodies, and more. Come Run: ComeRun is a friendly, free, all-levels running group that has been meeting since 2005 for weekly Saturday runs in scenic locations in and around Tucson, with routes designed by a volunteer hosting team. Entirely volunteer-run, the group welcomes runners of every pace, distance, and experience level, whether you’re a seasoned marathoner or just starting out. During academic breaks, ComeRun partners with the Workout Group to host Tuesday morning runs on the Rillito River Path and Thursday evening runs in Sabino Canyon. Email comerun@googlegroups.com
El Tour de Tucson: The El Tour folks don’t have their own formal organized bike rides, but their flagship El Tour bike and 5k run/walk events promote charity, community, health and wellness. Learn More Here
520 Running and Riding: One of Tucson’s most popular social groups, this a running and riding cooperative offers daily group runs and rides, plus Wednesday track workouts.Group runs meet at various locations in Tucson, Oro Valley and surrounding areas. Facebook Link
Fleet Feet Training Groups: Meets Tuesdays are at 6:15 pm & Saturdays vary between 5-7 am. Fleet Feet Training offers weekly run/walk workouts, strength and conditioning videos, weekly emails and videos from coaches, social media groups to share our success, and virtual training options. Southern Arizona Hiking Group: Not up for running? Fear not, the Southern Arizona Hiking Group can hook you up. With more than 500 members and 60 guides, our club offers a wide range of weekly guided activities – mall walking to peak bagging – easy to strenuous. See their monthly calendar at gosahc.org
Southwest Endurance (SWET): SWET running and power-walking groups and training programs support athletes of all experience, fitness levels and distances. Their passion is helping new and aspiring runners and walkers learn to use the work/walk strategy, and training novice through intermediate athletes to that next distance goal. Thunder Mountain Running Club: Thunder Mountain Running Club is a non-profit in the Sierra Vista – Bisbee – Ft Huachuca area of Southeastern Arizona.They are an open group that hosts local races from 5K to half marathon. Tucson Trail Runners: Tucson Trail Runners (TTR) is a trail/ultra running group that focuses on (mostly) long-distance trail runs on public lands in all five mountain ranges surrounding Tucson, Arizona. The average run distance is 15 to 20+ miles, although shorter route options are often available. TTR meets almost weekly on Sundays from September through the end of May. Women of the Sonoran – Trail Run Club: is a vibrant and welcoming community of over 700 women who love exploring the trails of Southern Arizona. We host night runs on weeknights and take on longer, more adventurous routes on the weekends. Our mission is to support local women—whether you’re just curious about trail running or training for ultramarathons—and to build a strong, inclusive community every step of the way.
